Artist Catherine Mansell Featured in a Unique Exhibition at Owl and Dove’s Gallery

Westerly, RI – Artist Catherine Mansell, of Westerly, is featured in a solo art exhibition at the new light filled gallery at Owl and Dove, a delightful river front restaurant on the border of Pawtucket CT/Westerly RI. The exhibition will be on view from September 4 to September 30, 2024. Mansell employs the ancient techniques of fresco surfaces with encaustic wax art and often suggest landscapes. She uses a minimalist style that reveals her study of the art of Asian brush painting. Owl and Dove is open daily except Thursday from 8-2pm and 5-9PM.

Mansell has exhibited her work frequently including recent showings in highly competitive exhibitions at the Providence Art Club in Providence, RI, the Salmagundi Club of New York, the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, the Mystic Museum of Art, the Lyme Art Association, Wickford Art Association and Allied Artists of America. Her work was highlighted in a public art exhibition in 2022 at the Atrium gallery of the Rhode Island at One Capitol Hill. Donations of her work have benefitted many nonprofits including the RISD Museum “Angels” program, South County Art Association, and Save the Bay of Rhode Island. She is represented by Frederica Marshall Gallery in Deer Isle, Maine.

Mansell earned her BS, MS, and MA at Columbia University and holds an AM in Environmental Studies from Brown University. While studying at Brown, she served as a Proctor at Brown’s Sarah Doyle Center for Women and Gender, where she shared management of the Center’s Art Gallery. She has completed additional studies in the Drawing and Painting Certificate Program at the Rhode Island School of Design. Active in the community, Mansell has served as a Sustaining Docent at the RISD Museum since 2010 and is a previous member of the RI Watercolor Society’s Executive Board. In addition to RIWS she is an Elected Artist Member of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, the Mystic Museum of Art, Rhode Island Watercolor Society, the Allied Artists of America and is an award-winning contributor to the Sumi-e Society of America. A former New Yorker, Catherine resides in Westerly, RI with her husband Anthony.
